Home Alone is an atmospheric horror game developed during the Brackeys Game Jam 2022.2, designed to test players’ ability to handle solitude and unexpected fears within the familiar confines of their own home. The game starts with a simple premise: the player’s character is left alone for the evening as their parents attend a fancy dinner. Equipped with a list of chores, the player must navigate the home, performing routine tasks. However, as the night progresses, the mundane quickly gives way to the menacing. The familiar setting of a family home becomes a playground for nerves, with each shadow and sound magnified by the absence of others.

A Night of Growing Tension

Gameplay in Home Alone centers around basic controls—WASD for movement, the left mouse button for interacting with objects and advancing dialogue, and the right mouse button for zooming in on details. The simplicity of the controls belies the complexity of the challenges players face as the atmosphere shifts from safe to sinister. Tasks that should be straightforward are complicated by unexplained occurrences and an escalating sense of dread. Players must decide whether to confront these anomalies head-on or avoid them, with each decision influencing the ultimate outcome of their night alone. Will they manage to keep their composure and enjoy their evening, or will the eerie atmosphere overcome their resolve to remain unfazed?
